2019 Elections Fallout: How Top Stalwarts Tore Umbrella, PDP Party Symbol Into Shreds In Ogun …the OGD, Kashamu, Adebutu’s connection

…the OGD, Kashamu, Adebutu’s connection

There seems to be no end in sight to the lingering crisis within the rank and file of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun state. The leadership crisis over who controls the soul of the party, which dated back to the second term of Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the governor of the state has continued to rage unabated.

The umbrella, PDP party symbol has since literarily torn apart, with no fore-fathers of the party having specific solution to mend it.

Gateway Times can also reliably inform that internal wrangling also lent weight to the emergence of the new governor of the gateway state, Prince Dapo Abiodun who himself was a pioneer member of the party in the country .

Findings by Gateway Times revealed that trouble started within the party when in an attempt to have grip over  the party and the government, Daniel as a sitting governor decided to edge out most of the key party leaders whom he considered as too confrontational.

Some of the party stalwarts included former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Sen. Jubril Martins-Kuye, Rt Hon Dimeji Sabur Bankole, Sen Lekan Mustapha and many others. At the twilight of his administration, Daniel introduced Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka as his possible successor.

The choice of Isiaka regarded as the one of the henchmen of Daniel’s government did not go down well with many of the leaders of the party. Hence, the beginning of the end of the party in the state.

While Isiaka later left for Peoples Party of Nigeri, (PPN)to rough shoulder with other governorship candidates, Daniel stiffled opposition within PDP which had Obasanjo as the arrowhead came up with Gen. Tunji Olurin, a retired military officer as the party flagbearer.

This sharp division then led to the emergence of the outgoing governor, Sen Ibikunle Amosun. Rather than stage a comeback since the dream to have a united party had been shattered in 2015, the endless war within the party continues unabated.

Information gathered by Gateway Times that several peace moves for the political gladiators to stay under one roof soon became unrealisable as each faction within the party stay glued to their individual positions not to step down for another.  While Obasanjo openly tore his party card in annoyance of the happenings within the party, Daniel who was initially backing Hon Ladi Adebutu governorship bid also pulled out due to irreconcilable differences.

The previous misunderstanding among the leaders later became a child’s play when Adebutu and Prince Buruji Kashamu literarily took each other to the cleaners. While the national secretariat of the party openly backed Adebutu’s governorship bid, Kashamu held on to several court orders in his possession which gave legitimacy to the Engr Bayo Dayo led-Exco in the state.

Gateway Times can also reliably add that at the end of internal war over who controls the soul of the party, Buruji succeeded in resting Hon Adebutu’s governorship ambition few days to the last general election. And as fate would also befall Buruji, the governorship ticket which he got through the court could not also helped his governorship bid as Prince Dapo Abiodun eventually emerged at the poll as the next governor of the state.
