The Vice Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation in Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun has appealed to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to give Ogun West more attention in terms of infrastructure development more than before.
The lawmaker, representing Yewa North (I I) Ketu State Constituency made the appeal during the second reading of 2024 budget held at the Assembly Complex, Okemosan Abeokuta, the state capital.
It would be recalled that the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun presented over N703.03b as the Year 2024 Appropriation Bill to the State legislature, out of which N415.66bn was earmarked for Capital Expenditure while recurrent expenditure will gulps N287.37bn.
The proposed budget christened, “Budget of Sustained Growth and Development” earmarked N95.05bn for personnel costs, consolidated revenue stood at N27.35bn, while public debt charge was fixed at N59.09bn and overhead cost put at N105.88bn for the next fiscal year.
Speaking at the plenary yesterday when the 2024 Appropriation bill scaled through second reading, the lawmaker commended Governor Abiodun for some projects executed in Ogun West which included over 198 classrooms renovated in five local government areas and some roads construction and other projects over the years.
Hon. Egungbohun said unlike other senatorial districts who have been receiving major projects in their respective zone, urged the Governor to remember Ogun West in this 2024 budget saying that the senatorial district deserves more attention in terms of infrastructural development more than before.
He cited Imeko Afon, Ijoun, Eeguaa, Oja-Odan, Ilase, Itoro which belongs to Yewa South, Ipokia, among other major roads that cut across all the four local governments in Ogun West that needed government attention this time around adding that the state of the roads is not something to write about.
The lawmaker appealed that Governor Abiodun should construct the major roads to be motorable to ease the movement of people and goods in the axis.
He emphasized on the abandoned roads at Ijale Ketu by the former Governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun which he said at the rainy season has been a major challenges for the people in the community to do their daily activities including their monarch can not go out from the palace, adding that the road has affected farmers and Chinese that plant rubber trees at Aworo and Eggua reserved land, appealed for government urgent intervention on the roads.
The Vice Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation revealed that if Egguaa road can be done, it will really be a great benefit and ease of movement for the establishment of Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies in Iselu, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State as the bill for establishment already passed second reading at the Senate sponsored by Sen. Solomon Adeola Olamilekan (Yayi) in his capacity as the chairman, Senate committee on appropriations.
The lawmaker who equally appealed to the state Governor to fulfill his campaign promises for Ogun West, said a primary health center located at Oja-Odan which has been abandoned for years also need the state government attention for the benefit of the community.
Hon. Egungbohun also explained that the abandoned World Bank Rural Electrification Project that cut across 57 communities in Ketu Yewa North needs government attention and should be completed to improve standard of living of the people in the community.
