Italian police transplant kidneys in ‘specially fitted Lamborghini’ | World news
Italian police used a specially equipped Lamborghini supercar to deliver two kidneys to donor patients on Tuesday hundreds of kilometers apart, they announced.
“Traveling on the road to present the most beautiful Christmas gift: life,” they said in a statement posted on social media, alongside a picture of a medical cooler in the purpose-built compartment at the front of the Huracan.
“Thanks to the special Father Christmas of the State Police, two people have received the gift of a kidney.”
The organs were transported from Padua in northeastern Italy to hospitals in Modena and then Rome.
The Lamborghini Huracan, which has a top speed of 300kmh (190mph) and the ability to go from 0-100kmh in 3.2 seconds, is the 2017 gift to the police from the luxury car.
It was assigned to the streets of Bologna, in northern Italy, for use in regular police operations and the urgent collection of blood and organs.
Another Huracan is being operated by road patrols in Rome, while a 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo once used by the police is now in a museum.
