Two eminent personalities on Friday, December 1, 2023, were bestowed with honourary chieftaincy titles of the Kuta kingdom in Osun State.
The recipients, Lagos based businesswoman, Abisola Bamidele, and Hon Michael Msuaan (MON), a senior special assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, were both honoured as Erelu Borokini of Owu Kuta and Akeweje of Owu Kuta, respectively.
At the culturally colourful ceremony which attracted a mass of people of repute from far and near, the Olowu of Kuta, HRM Oba Hameed Adekunle Oyelude Makama Tegbosun III (CON) who was the host, noted that the recipients merited the honours because his kingdom gives out titles to only persons of impeccable character.
“Our recipients really merited these titles. They have been supportive of Owu Kuta and we can vouch for their integrity. I don’t give chieftaincy titles anyhow. My chieftaincy titles are expensive; not in cash, but to those who merited it,” Oba Makama said, while he urged the recipients to be good ambassadors of Owu Kuta and the entire Owu kingdom worldwide and continue to support the development of the Owu Kingdom.
The event was witnessed by such eminent personalities as Amb. (Lt. Gen) Tukur Yusuf Buratai who is the Balogun Agba’ of Owu Kuta and bosom friend of Oba Makama; Admiral Adamu Biu (rtd) and a host of senior powerful delegations from the SGF office and the government of Benue State.
Acknowledging the developmental supports of General Buratai for Owu Kuta kingdom and environs, Oba Makama commended the former army chief for his enduring loyalty to friendship, and most importantly for contructing the bridge linking Owu Kuta with Ede town that has been abandoned for more than 100 years. The monarch declared that by constructing the bridge, General Buratai has given him pension and retirement, and that anyone who may want to harm Buratai would have him and ancestors to contend with.
The event which lasted from 10 o’clock in the morning till 9 o’clock in the night, witnessed a grand display of culture by dancers and singers representing the recipients’ ethnic roots.
