Abeokuta’s top phone sales outlet, Slot Systems, is at the moment having a running battle with the owner of the building it presently operates from in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
A visit to the location of the building showed the relationship between the tenant and the landlord has hit the rocks as the roofs of the building had been removed and serious renovation is ongoing, while business operations are still in progress which has exposed patrons of the center to untold dangers and discomfort l.
It was gathered that the distressed building, which is reportedly constituting environmental hazard to the area, har been marked by the landlord for total reconstruction.
Sources further revealed that while other occupants of the premises located on Lalubu Street in Okelewo Area of the state capital had earlier vacated the property, the management of Slot Systems have continued to run business at the detriment of the unsuspecting people in the area.
It was also learnt that management of Slot Systems was served several notice to leave the premises, but they have remained in the property for several years without payment, using forces and influence from certain quarters to remain as occupiers.
It was further revealed that both the owner of the building and the management of Slot Systems have not been in good term for several years over tenancy disagreement.
The face-off, which, according to another source, has become a subject of discourse in the area, actually led to the exit of other business owners within the premises.
A check at the business premises revealed that the owner of the structure is at present working to give the place a facelift following reports from a government agency that the building had become weak and may eventually collapse if not urgently attended to.
Despite the ongoing rehabilitation work, however, Slot Systems has refused to vacate the structure, a situation which has posed serious hazards to both the occupants and visitors to the building.
Meanwhile, the communication outfit was reported to have been forcefully ejected from its former location situated on the same Oke Ilewo road, for failure to honour tenancy contractual agreement.
