Attacks don’t bother me; my constituents’ welfare is my priority – Otunba Gbenga Daniel
A former governor of Ogun State, who is now the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has revealed that all the attacks and allegations against him don’t bother him, rather the welfare of his constituents remains his topmost priority.
Gbenga Daniel made this known during a virtual interactive session he had with members of the League of Yoruba Media Practitioners, LYMP, on Monday night.
The Senator had recently in a media revealed the reason for the frosty relationship between him and Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is the governor of the state.
He said his choice of support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for President is the main cause of the friction between them, whereas he was working for another candidate within the same party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daniel in the interview said he faced victimization in the party in Ogun state for standing behind President Tinubu when the governor led the state chapter of the APC to support former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
However, this revelation has been greeted with criticism from the state chapter of the party, claiming that the Otunba Gbenga Daniel never supported the candidacy of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking via a statement issued on Monday by the State Assistant Publicity Secretary of APC, Olusola Ogunsanya, the party insisted that the senator’s interview was filled with lies and falsehood.
The statement alleged that the erstwhile governor supported the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidates during the last general elections in Ogun State. Ogunsanya alleged that Governor Abiodun rescued Daniel from political oblivion.
The party also claimed that Tinubu advised Daniels to desist from being a serial betrayer but he never listened.
However, responding during the interactive session with the League of Yoruba Media Practitioners, Daniel said he need not respond to the allegations against him, he also accepts all the tantrums thrown at him in good faith.
He said; “I am an elder, I have to absorb so much, and I am already accommodating the allegations against me, whatever they said, let us agree it is so, but what is more important is how we can lift our people out of poverty, how they can be free from hunger and pains. I am praying that which I have been sent to the Senate to do, we shall do very well, and the good Lord will strengthen me to do more than the people’s expectations.
“I want to assure our people that I am not after anything, God has been benevolent upon me right from my childhood, I am not after anything more than how we can leave the stage better than we met it.
“When I was the governor of Ogun State, we did our best, we tried our effort, the people after us also did their beat, and so also the current governor (Prince Dapo Abiodun) is doing all he could, in four years, he will leave the stage for another person, that is how it is, whatever we do will be spoken when we have quit the stage.”
