Cult Clash Claims Two Lives In Ogun

A bloody cult clash yesterday disrupted the annual procession of the Agemo festival which later claimed three lives in Ijebu area of the state.

The victims were allegedly murdered following the unrest between members of the dreaded Eiye and the Aiye Confraternities.

An eye-witness confirmed to Gateway Times that the two rival groups have been on each other’s neck since the beginning of this year but only seized the opportunity of the traditional festival to renewed the hostility.

Another source disclosed to this newsmagazine that the latest mayhem though started at Italapo street in Ijebu Ode where one person was said to have been killed, the crisis which later degenerated to gun duel, led to Bonojo street, where another middle-aged guy was shot dead.

Investigation by Gateway Times revealed the area and its suburb as hotbed of cult violence with attendance effect on the residents of the area.

Successive Commissioners’ of Police in the state have been involved in various frantic efforts to arrest the situation.

When contacted on Saturday, July 6, 2019, the Spokesperson of the Ogun state Police Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was not aware of the development, but promised to immediately begin findings on the situation and thereafter revert to us.

Gateway Times however gathered few hours ago that undercover security operatives have taken over strategic areas with sizable cases of violence in Ijebu Ode.
