The family of Ogunlana has been thrown into mourning mood as a truck belonging to Dangote yesterday crushed their bread-winner, Tope Ogunlana to death around Lagos motor park in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.
The sad incident brings to forth so many lives that have been lost to fatal accident in the area since Dangote Groups acquired a multi-billion naira quarry in Ijebu North local government.
Eye-witnesses told Gateway Times Correspondent, that the truck heading towards Ijebu Igbo en-route Ijebu Ode allegedly ran into the motorcyclist who was also heading towards Imepe road in the area.
Information also has it that the shout from passersby actually forced the truck driver to halt the vehicle around First City Monument Bank. FCMB on Folagbade road.
Immediately the truck driver realized the extent of the accident, he was reported to have fled the scene with his vehicle while his motor-boys otherwise known as ‘conductor’ were unlucky, and therefore apprehended.
Though, the Okada rider was said to have made it to Ijebu Ode General Hospital where he was rushed to, and placed on oxygen, Gateway Times further gathered that he however breathed his last as he was about to be transferred to University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan.
The deceased, a 45-year old plumber, according to a family source had a family of four. He was said to be running the motorcycling business as a part-time arrangement just to make ends meet.
Sources added that the deceased eldest daughter who study at Muslim Girl Secondary School, Ijebu Ode, and was observing the ongoing JAMB examination went into coma when the news of his father sudden departure filtered into town.
His corpse has since been deposited at Ijebu Ode General Hospital morgue. While his burial has been slated for his residence in Ogbogbo-Ijebu tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Mr Francis Awowole-Browne, Manager, Media Relations, Dangote Group did not pick his call when contacted on the issue, neither did he respond to a message sent to his phone.
However, a police source who pleaded anonymity confirmed to Gateway Times that the report was true, he also added that the two motor-boys who alighted from the truck to ascertain the ugly incident, before the driver of the truck bolted away have been apprehended and taken to the Police Area Command, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode.
