Elon Musk votes for ‘general amnesty’ for suspended Twitter accounts | World news
Days after reinstating former US President Donald Trump following a Twitter poll, Elon Musk conducted another poll to gauge public opinion on the “general public.” The new Twitter owner held a poll asking users whether all suspended accounts that were “violating the law or engaging in serious spam” should be reinstated.
“Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, as long as they don’t break the law or contribute to massive spam?” the tech billionaire asked, with options to vote yes or no.
The poll results, which have a 24-hour window, will be out on November 25, 2022, around 11:16 PM IST.
Previously, Musk had conducted an online poll asking Twitter users whether Trump’s account should be reinstated on the blogging platform. In the election that received 15,085,458 votes, 51.8 percent voted yes and 48.2 percent were against.
“The people have spoken. Trump will take it back. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,’ Musk tweeted on Saturday.
Trump’s Twitter account appeared to be back on Saturday evening and the last tweet was dated January 8, 2021, in which Trump said, “To all who asked, I will not be attending the Inauguration in January 20th.”
When asked if he plans to return to Twitter, the former president said he might not.
“I don’t see it because I don’t see any reason for it,” Trump said, adding that he would stick with his new platform Truth Social, an app developed by his startup Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).
Trump was long suspended from Twitter by the previous administration in January 2021, days after an attempted coup by his supporters at the US Capitol. Trump supporters, unsure of the results of the 2020 presidential election, stormed the Capitol as Congress tried to confirm Joe Biden’s victory.
Then the legal affairs and policy director at Twitter, Vijaya Gadde, was at the forefront of the decision to suspend Trump’s Twitter account.
Gadde has tweeted that “reporting of @realDonaldTrump has been suspended for a long time from Twitter due to the risk of further violence. We have also published an analysis of the implementation of our policy – you can read more about our decision here”, linked to a Twitter blog site. about the company’s decision to stop Trump’s Twitter account completely.
