Flash Flood: Victims Receive Relief Materials In Ijebu-Ode
Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of flash flood that occurred in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the State on July 28, 2019.
Speaking during the exercise, held at the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Secretariat, the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, TPL (Mrs.) Yetunde Dina, said the gesture was to console the victims of the unpleasant experience, saying measures have been put in place to reconstruct the drainages to avoid future occurrence.
Abiodun enjoined residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, which could block the water ways and lead to flooding.
“According to the weather forecast by the National Metrological Agency, there will be heavy rain as from September. Hence, people should avoid any form of construction work or dumping of refuse on water ways, to prevent flood disasters”, he said.
The Governor urged other victims who were not captured in the last assessment to report to their local government for registration, pledging that he would not relent on his promise of providing succour to residents of the State.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Princess Abisola Agbona and Mr. Diran Eyinfunjowo, commended government for its continued assistance, promising their unflinching support to ensure success of the present administration.
