Gov. Abiodun Directs HOLGAs To Take Over Local Gov’t Secretariats

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun , has directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) to immediately take charge of the all 20 local government areas of the State.

The directive followed the expiration of the statutory three-year tenure of the elected local government chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors on Friday, July 25, 2024

Secretary to the state Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, made this known, during a meeting with the HOLGAs in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration would remain committed to grassroots development through the ongoing provision of infrastructure, and ensuring execution of projects that would have an impact on the well-being and welfare of the people.

Talabi, while promising that the state government would continue to support the local governments to reinvigorate grassroots economy, urged the HOLGAs to use their administrative skills in running the affairs of the council areas effectively.

Responding on behalf of the HOLGAs, Director, Management Services, Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Babatunde Owolabi, who appreciated the Governor Dapo Abiodun for the high level of confidence reposed in the HOLGAs to hold forth at the grassroots, said the onerous responsibilities would require synergy in achieving government’s policies and programmes at the LGAs, pledging their determinations to live up to expectation.

Others at the meeting were, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Olanike Oguntona and her counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Olurotimi Akinlesi, among others.
