Gunmen Kill Former Deputy Speaker’s Cousin In Ogun

Former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Dare Kadiri, prominently known as MABA in the political circle yesterday lost one of his cousins simply identified as Bayo Rabiu in Iperu area of the state.

Gateway Times Nigeria reports that gunmen suspected to be cultists from Ishara/Ogere area reportedly mistook the deceased and three others for their target, and waylaid the vehicle in which they were travelling to an event.

But another source close to the family of the deceased revealed that the occupants of the vehicle, who were all adorning APC (Yellow) T-shirts were coming from the groundbreaking exercise of the Agro Industrial Processing Zone anchored by Gov Abiodun and retuning to Ago-Iwoye when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to findings, the killing must have been a case of mistaken identity and had no political undertone.

The source however alleged that the cult clash which had been on for weeks should have been arrested ahead of the Governor’s event in the area.

“We were informed that he was killed by some unknown cultists because he wore a yellow dress, while they shot other two guys who were with him in the car they went for the Gov’s programme and where going back to Ago Iwoye,” the source said.

Confirming the incident to Gateway Times Nigeria in a brief telephone interview on Saturday, Hon Dare Kadiri said it was true the guy was killed by unknown gunmen, but added that as Muslims, the family has left everything to God.

“It is a sad day for the kadiri’s family of Odosinusi Ago Iwoye. He is one of the pride of our family and the breadwinner of his immediate family who contributed immensely to mine and Mr Governor political success in the last years. But, as Muslims, we believe it is the wish of Allah.

I have informed our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while I expect the Commissioner of police to fish out the culprits as this is unacceptable to me and my extended family.

The family will meet to discuss further, while we appeal to the youth of Ago-Iwoye to be calm, not to embark on any reprisal attack as Iperu/Ilisan people are our brothers,” the lawmaker concluded.

When contacted, the Police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was not aware of the development, but promised to revert thereafter. He is however yet to call back as at press time.
