Sudan: Conflict displaced nearly 200,000 last week alone

In total, more than 2.6 million people have been displaced since the start of the conflict on 15 April.
Meanwhile, more than 730,000 people have fled Sudan for neighboring countries, according to the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.
High-ranking UN officials visit the refugee camp
On Tuesday, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN Amina Mohammed and the director of the World Food Program (WFP), Cindy McCain, visited a camp in eastern Chad that received Sudanese refugees.
Ms. Mohammed said she was inspired by the courage of those who fled there, many of them women and children, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters in New York.
“He said he also heard stories of unprecedented suffering in Sudan and great needs in Chad,” he added. “More international support is needed for refugees and their host communities, he said.”
UN support continues
Back in Sudan, humanitarians continue to provide relief to civilians.
In North Darfur, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and partners are supporting the delivery of water to gathering places for displaced people, and medical supplies. They have also built more than a dozen toilets.
Mr. Dujarric said that the UN health agency WHO is working closely with the Ministry of Health of Sudan and other partners in the states that take care of displaced people to provide essential, reproductive, sexual, maternal and child care.
On Monday, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and partners managed to deliver life-saving supplies, including 3,000 reproductive health kits, to six hospitals in Khartoum state.
He said UNFPA is committed to reaching all women and girls in need in Sudan with urgent health and safety services.
