Ijebu-Ode Flooding: OGSG Assures Residents Of Prompt Support

Following the flood disaster that occurred in Ijebu-Ode  and its environs, the Ogun State government  has  assured residents that permanent engineering solutions will be proffered to prevent the reoccurrence of such disaster.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Kayode Ademolake, said this during an assessment tour of the affected areas.

Engr. Ademolake said one of the major causes of the disaster was the clogged drainages, which made it difficult for free flow of water whenever it rains heavily.

‘’The drainage system in Ijebu-Ode was built many years ago when the population of the town was not as big as it is now , so there is need for us in the long term to reengineer the  drainage system of the town‘’, he said

According to the Permanent Secretary, clearing and repair of the clogged culverts would be carried out to free the drainages and allow water to flow.

Allaying the fear of the residents, the Consultant to the Governor, Elder Ade Akinsanya, said Government was aware of their plight, as the assessment tour was to ensure lasting solution to  alleviate the challenge.

The Consultant urged them to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse along waterways, which he said, was one of the causes of the disaster.

Some of the affected areas visited included, Degun, Balogun-Kuku, Molipa, Asafa, Obalende, Ojofa and Fusi-Gboye Roads.
