Imran Khan to Pakistan army: avoid ‘political engineering’ | World news

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan asked the army to avoid any “political engineering” in the national elections expected to be held later this year. The comments were made by Imran Khan in his party- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s women’s conference in Karachi.

Addressing the meeting through a video conference, Imran Khan attacked former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, blaming him for his release. Imran Khan also expressed fears that political engineering may be used in the upcoming general elections to weaken his party.

“The military establishment has not learned anything from its past mistakes as political engineering is harming my party for future elections,” Imran Khan said.

“Our establishment has done a lot of damage to the country…but still it is not ready to write anything from the past,” he added. He also urged the new army chief Gen Asim Munir to remain neutral, claiming that the former army chief was “responsible for the crisis in the country”.

“This man has put Pakistan in a crisis. I told him (before I removed my government last April) that the weakness of the PTI government will not benefit the country. It harms the political and economic interests of the country. Pakistan is,” said Imran Khan. .

Earlier, he had accused General Bajwa- who retired in November after getting a three-year extension in 2019 by then Prime Minister Imran Khan- of playing a “double game” against his government. He also said he made a “big mistake” by taking the time of the then army chief.
