In China, the couple’s ‘protection’ against the outbreak of Covid-19 is viral: See | World news
The sudden outbreak of Covid-19 in China, possibly due to the Omicron BF.7 variant, has made people take as many preventive measures as possible to avoid long lines in hospitals filled to the brim.
Various companies including Bloomberg and AFP reported that Kannada hospitals and resorts are struggling to operate and are overwhelmed. Amidst these concerns, the Chinese have resorted to their own methods in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak, some of which have gone viral on social media as well.

A viral video posted by China’s state-affiliated media, People’s Daily, shows a couple shopping for vegetables while protecting themselves from the risk of getting infected in an innovative way. In the video, the couple is seen covering themselves from top to bottom in a plastic sheet held by the support of an umbrella that the man is holding. Remaining in a makeshift “shelter”, the couple interacts with humans without initiating “direct” contact.
When they saw the video, while some people laughed at the trick used by the couple, others expressed concern about the “epidemic”. Meanwhile, Chinese authorities said on Sunday that the top health body will stop publishing daily Covid-19 data amid backlash over inadequate reporting. This comes as China faces criticism over its decision last week to narrow the criteria by which Covid-19 fatalities are counted, which experts say is an attempt to reduce the real deaths, AFP news agency reported.
Amid a report that China logged 37 million cases a day this week, official data maintains that only six deaths have been reported since the country dissolved its Covid restrictions, the AFP report added.
