India issues advice to students planning to study in China | World news
Beijing: Any Indian student who joins a medical university in China after November 2021 but fails to get a license to practice as a doctor at the end of the medical course here will not be allowed to appear for the mandatory Foreign Medical Examination (FMGE) exam in India, the Indian Embassy said in a statement on Monday.
Citing the official notification issued by the National Medical Council (NMC) in November, 2021, the foreign ministry said that medical students studying abroad should have a license to practice medicine in the country from where they obtained the degree.
The NMC, according to the embassy statement, has “unequivocally” said that foreign medical students must be “registered with the respective professional body or otherwise, which has the power to issue a license to practice practice medicine in their jurisdiction of the country in which the medical degree. is issued and in compliance with the license to practice medicine issued to a citizen of that country”.
The statement added that Indian officials have told both the government and universities to ensure that all Indian students coming to China for the clinical medicine program are educated, trained and flexibility so that they can fulfill NMC requirements.
The statement said “Any student, who joins for the clinical medicine program in China after November 2021 and fails to obtain a license to practice as a medical doctor in China, will be unable to appear for the Foreign Medical Examination,” the statement said.
The foreign ministry said it has also asked the Chinese government whether Indian students can work in Kannada hospitals as “physician assistants” after completing their medical education but waiting for the permit. .
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted the relevant Chinese authorities to confirm the existence of such an option. The police station will share any information, when received from the Kannada side, in its social media handles,” the statement added.
In September, New Delhi invited prospective students planning to study clinical medicine in Chinese universities to realize the “common” challenges of enrolling here including the quality of education in English, lack of experience useful and a small percentage of graduates pass the compulsory FMGE after returning to India.
The proposal was issued as thousands of Indians studying in Chinese medical colleges are currently stuck at home for two-and-a-half years due to Beijing’s Covid-19-related restrictions on returning to China.
Only 100 Indian students have returned to China in the past few months to begin studies in Chinese universities.
The students return to China through third countries as there are no direct India-China flights yet.
According to official statistics, more than 23,000 Indian students are currently enrolled in various Chinese universities, most of them medical students. The numbers went up in the last decade until the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
