Inmates Warned Against Use Of Hard Drugs T USE OF HARD DRUGS

Inmates, serving their terms at Prison formations in Ogun State have been warned against the use of hard drugs after the completion of their jail terms.

          The Deputy Director, Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist Bolajoko Igbagboyemi, who gave this warning during a sensitisation visit of Ogun State Drug        Control Committee to new Abeokuta Prison, Oba, noted that the prisoners, especially those addicted to drugs, could still live promising life, but needed not to allow themselves to be lured into illicit drugs.

          Igbagboyemi added, that many extra judicial killing, either deliberate or accidental, road crashes, cultists activities and other violence acts, are sometimes caused by the use of deadly drugs, calling inmates to engage in useful ventures when they eventually come out of the prison.

          An official from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs. Ekwu Eucharia, while educating the prisoners on the dangers of hard drugs, explained drug abuse to mean, taking of drugs in order to feel high, to commit criminal acts, saying it could also be, taking of drugs such as; sleeping tablets, cough syrup and pain killer within certain period of time, without adequate prescription by a qualified medical personnel.

          Ekwu explained further that illicit use of drug could kill or result to insanity, while some alcoholic drinks are not suitable for human consumption, as they could damage vital organs.

          Receiving the team, the Chief Warder of the Prison, Mr. Oris Adeyeba, lauded the Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s led-administration for its numerous initiatives aimed at repositioning prisons in the State for better performance.
