A suicide bomber struck a center of Taliban power on Wednesday, launching an attack on a government office in the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing at least two people, a Taliban official said.
The afternoon blast went off inside the mosque of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior, which is responsible for security and law enforcement in the country.

An explosion hit a mosque at a government headquarters in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday as workers and visitors were praying, a Taliban official said.
The afternoon blast went off inside the mosque of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior, which is responsible for security and law enforcement in the country.
The Ministry of Interior is located in the capital of Afghanistan, on the main road next to Kabul International Airport, and is located in its own walled area.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known, but if it was an attack it would mean that the insurgents had struck in the center of the Taliban’s power.
A Taliban-appointed spokesman for the ministry, Abdul Nafi Takor, said in a tweet: “Unfortunately there was an explosion in a mosque (n) where some Interior Ministry staff and visitors were praying. Will share details later. “
He did not say whether the mosque was in the ministry or near it. There was no immediate information about the victims. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast, but the Islamic State group, the Taliban’s arch-rival, has been waging an increasingly violent campaign since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
The attack on the interior mosque followed a suicide attack last week at an educational institution in Kabul that killed as many as 52 people, according to a tally compiled by The Associated Press, more than double that number. Death was claimed by Taliban officials.
