The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Sunday decided to withdraw from Nepal’s government coalition after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” refused to reinstate the party’s flamboyant president Rabi Lamichhane as home minister after he recently acquired his citizenship. .

Lamichhane, 48, was elected from Chitwan-2 constituency during the elections held in November last year.
He later lost his parliamentary position following a ruling by Nepal’s Supreme Court on January 27, which declared that the citizenship certificate he produced to contest the parliamentary election was invalid, according to the Kathmandu newspaper. Post.
Later, he also lost his ministerial portfolio and party chairmanship because one needs to be a Nepali citizen to hold those positions, he said.
On January 29, he regained his citizenship, after which he met Prachanda and demanded that he be reinstated to his former post of President, the report said.
But Nepal’s prime minister was in no mood to relent, he added.
Lamichhane was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior on December 26 last year.
The RSP, led by Lamichhane, won 20 seats in the federal elections, making it the fourth largest force in parliament.
Lamichhane, a former television personality, shot to fame while attempting to set the Guinness World Record for hosting the longest running talk show in 2013.
During a press conference organized after the joint meeting of the RSP central committee, Lamichhane said that in the past, efforts have been made to put him in many controversies, but he has always managed to copy it.
The RSP’s decision to withdraw from the coalition government did not change Prime Minister Prachanda’s political agenda.
That is because even though the RSP has decided to recall their ministers, they will continue to support this government, the Post report added.
Last month, ‘Prachanda’ received the support of 268 of the 270 legislators in the parliament – the highest number of votes the Prime Minister has received in the vote of confidence in the parliament.
