Ogun Assemblyman Seeks Upgrade of Petro-Gas Institute To Polytechnic

The chairman of Ogun state House of Assembly committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Akeem Balogun popularly known as Baloo Spero, has appealed to Ogun state Government to upgrade Gateway Industrial & Petro–Gas Institute (GIPI) situated at Oni in Ogun Waterside Local Government to Polytechnic.

Baloo Spero, who spoke during the budget defence of GIPI at Ogun state House of Assembly Complex, Abeokuta , argued that the transformation of GIPI to Polytechnic would enhance the capability of the Institution to achieve its objectives.

“I am excited by the prospect of transforming GIPI to Polytechnic because it will motivate students, academic and non academic staff of the Institution. This will also upgrade the facilities and enhance the Institution’s capability to achieve its objectives.

“Similarly, the new Polytechnic will enhance the social-economic status of Ogun Waterside Local Government,” he said.

He noted that with the attainment of Polytechnic status,large expanse of land ,300 capacity CBT centre, hostel for over 300 students, quarters for management and dedicated staff in the institution would be better utilised.

The lawmaker added that with the plan of the present government in Ogun state to improve prosperity and increase industrial revolution, the state must be ready to adjust and position its educational institutions so that the products from such institutions are geared for the technological challenges inherent in such projections.

The speaker of Ogun state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Olakunle Oluomo promised to give the transformation of GIPI to Polytechnic the attention it deserves.
