Opinion: ‘Lekan My Friend; My Brother!
By, Òtuńba Oláídé Òshífęsò
The chroniclers of Senator Abdul Rahman Olalekan Mustapha-Commander Of the Niger (CON) have taken the trouble to publish the historic chronicle of his achievements as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that represented Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun State. Repeating the feats of this great friend that the historians have published may be time- wasting efforts and boredom to you.
However it must be mentioned in brevity that Senator Lekan Mustapha as popularly called, accounts for hundreds of employments to job seekers that he facilitated. Roads construction projects that were ably completed were credited to his name. Durable infrastructures that impart great values to Nigeria’s citizenry altogether were amongst the work of his mind that he initiated and completed in whole with his steadfastness.
It is heard that Lekan ranks behind Senator Gbajabiamila in functions of office to render democracy dividends to the expectant public. Well, Senator Gbajabiamila may have edged him due to greater influence in official hierarchy that he exploited reasonably to complete more works than Lekan. Certainly the reason is not due to relent by Lekan to slow down or abandon his projects or pursuits for his senatorial district.
That Lekan now is out of Nigerian Senate may be perceived as huge loss to the Ogun State public taking his work rate into account. Thinkers may opine that Lekan definitely would do more to delight his electorates and the believers in his work ethics within the four years term that the Senate would have afforded him to serve if he had contested and won senatorial election.
Such thinkers and assessors may be marked correct in their wits’ competence. Nonetheless it would be an aberration if anyone does not publicly initiate that Lekan is due for political promotion outside the Senate. He is due to play greater roles that can improve Ogun State in a larger work scope. He is ideal too with the work laurels credited to him, to join the strides of the federal government ministers for our nation building.
Call out anyone who says Lekan would not be a good ambassador of Nigeria to any of the English speaking countries particularly where snow falls. Such person should be told that Lekan can capably mobilise highly needed investors to Nigeria with his business acumen and thoroughness that diplomatic mission entail if his talents and ethical standards are harnessed effectively to improve Nigeria.
Nigeria is at crossroads where noblemen who love honour, noblemen that do not shy away from diplomacies and mind games, noblemen whom the spoils of office do not weaken, noblemen who cannot lie, noblemen who believe in every hour of the day is work hours under good or harsh weather influence.
These are noblepersons needed to roll up their shirts’ sleeves and delight themselves by singing their favourite songs while they knowledgeably till the Nigeria’s rich land for higher productivity. It is no gainsaying that Lekan qualifies for placement on this realm to improve Nigeria.
Though a tall man, however something has developed about Lekan that insight has noticed but unannounced before now. Lekan’s heart is now larger than his body. He is near perfect in his dispositions and is constantly in a state of preparedness to take on tasks that would yield great values to humanity generally. Where the energy he applies to initiate and complete his set tasks comes from is a great resource point.
Lekan you have evidently proved the doubters and the pessimists wrong. They were wrong obviously in their previous assessments of you. Hopefully they would come to terms with the realities of your laurels as a genuine public minded nobleman with humble dispositions.
The good thing found remarkable about you is that you are still young. As a matter of fact you are younger than young itself. This implies that you can still dream tall and energetically traverse the world in your mind and walk the scope of your mind’s dreams where it wills to conquer. You were bold before bold when occasions demanded and that often earns you great success at your endeavours.
If I’m asked to choose a friend in future incarnation, I would ask of God that you should be my twin brother and I be given opportunities to do things together with you.
You are loved, my great friend. Thanks for doing me proud with your feats for the public and in your personal life.
Our over four decades of friendship and exchanges are of great value to humanity, till date.
Warm Regards,
Òtuńba Oláídé Oshífęsò,
