Pakistan’s former PM Imran Khan, children get additional cover protection | World news
Imran Khan and his sons have been provided with an additional group of warrant officers by the Kyber Pakhtaunkhawa district police, days after Pakistan’s former prime minister survived an assassination bid in Punjab province.
Although Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has its coalition government in the Punjab province, the party has no confidence in the Punjab Police after an assassination attempt on his life in which he suffered bullets to his right leg last week in the province. He underwent surgery for bullet injuries at the Shaukat Khanum hospital in Lahore owned by his charity.
An additional set of commandos to protect Khan and his family in Lahore belongs to the Kyber Pakhtaunkhawa (KP) district police.
“A special team of KP police on Friday took personal protection of Imran Khan and his children,” PTI said.

He said that there is no compromise on Imran Khan’s security.
Meanwhile, Khan on Friday through a video link from his home addressed the party’s long journey to Islamabad to push the coalition government of Shehbaz Sharif to call for fresh elections.
PTI’s journey to Islamabad led by party vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi also started on Thursday from Wazirabad where the assassination attempt on its chairman Imran Khan was carried out a week ago.
On Friday he reached Toba Tek Singh, over 200 kms from Lahore where the accused officials raised slogans against ‘strong communities’ for not letting the Punjab government include the names of high-profile suspects. Three – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and ISI Counter Intelligence Wing chief Maj-Gen Faisal Naseer – were accused of involvement in the assassination attempt on Imran Khan.
Remind the nation to participate in the long journey against the robbers and their colonizers’ Khan said: “Remember… if we act like cows, God will let us be like that. Countries don’t have a chance to change their destiny. “
Khan once again proposed the appointment of a new army chief on ‘merit.’ Pakistan’s current army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to retire on November 29.
Khan said the Sharifs and Zardari wanted a military leader who wanted to “protect the money they stole and wanted to steal more”.
Earlier, Khan had stated that the Sharifs and the Zardaris should not make appointments to the army chiefs on the basis that “thieves cannot be allowed” to do so.
He also criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Shairf for discussing the important decision with “declared criminal Nawaz Sharif”, saying it violated the Official Secrets Act and was a violation of his oath.
Khan has already proposed an extension to Gen Bajwa till the next elections are held.
“The new army chief should be appointed by the president-elect after fresh elections,” Khan said.
Imran Khan also accused the military establishment of allowing the Sharifs and Zardaris to come back to power.
“Thieves have come into power because of their guardians (the term used for military establishment),” he said.
He also said that there is no rule of law in Pakistan.
Despite being the prime minister, I could not get the FIR registered only because I had named a powerful person (ISI’s Maj-Gen Faisal Naseer) in it,” he said and added that no country can improve without law.
