Photos: Over 500 Benefit From Rotary Free Cataract Screening Exercise In Ijebu

No fewer than 500 people have benefitted from a one-day free cataract free screening exercise organised by the Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central in collaboration with Rotary clubs of Oregun, Ijebu Ode, Ijagun-TASUED, Ikeja Golden, Mushin Golden, and Ago-Iwoye Metropolitan.

The program, titled “Mission 4 Vision 2022” was held at Beulah Church in Ikangba, Odogbolu local government area of Ogun state under the leadership of Rtn Adebukunola Soile-Balogun, Imaginative President, Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central, Lagos.

The beneficiaries of the free cataract screening exercise conducted by doctors and paramedics were drawn from the major communities in Ijebuland, as they also include aged men and women, young ones, and the student community.

Speaking at the well-attended event, Rtn Soile-Balogun highlighted Disease Prevention and Treatment as one of the cardinal focus of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, said research has shown that more people are infected with cataracts around Ijebu-Ode in particular, which informed the urgent need of the exercise in the area.

“The Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central is collaborating with six other Rotary clubs to provide free eye screening to detect cataract and other related eye ailments. In addition to this, free eyeglasses and drugs will be given out to about 500 beneficiaries as will be recommended by our team of medical experts.

The project is a two-legged exercise with this screening as the first leg while the other leg is the surgery which will be coming up in 2-3weeks from now depending on the recommendations of our medical team using the results from today’s exercise as a guide.

We have already made arrangements with the Catholic Hospital here in Ijebu-Ode and the Indo Eye Foundation in Lagos for the surgeries,” Rtn Soile-Balogun added.

She however expressed appreciation to Prof Justus Sokefun and the entire management of Beulah Church for granting the use of their buildings as the venue for the project.

“While I also thank the various beneficiaries for coming around to participate in the cataract exercises, let me not forget to appreciate the great support of fellow Rotarians and Rotary clubs for their participation in the program,” she concluded.
