The Ogun State Police Command says it has begun a manhunt for the suspected hoodlums who attacked a luxury bus heading to the South-East part of the country at Oke Ado junction in the Ijebu-Mushin area of the state on Saturday.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a follow-up conversation with PUNCH Metro on Monday.
According to Odutola, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has instructed that the perpetrators be fished out and made to face justice.
She stated that Alamutu also vowed to ensure that criminals and criminalities would not be condoned in any form or guise in the state.
Odutola said, “Following a report of the attack on a luxury bus by some suspected hoodlums, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.
“Although we are yet to make any arrests, the CP has ordered that the perpetrators be fished out and made to face justice.
“The CP is reiterating his commitment to rid the state of crime and criminalities as there will be no room for perpetrators of crimes under his watch.”
PUNCH Metro reported on Monday that some armed men, on Saturday, attacked and looted a luxury bus along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.
The passengers were said to be on their way to the South-East for Easter celebrations when the incident happened.
The armed men, after successfully robbing the passengers, also set the bus ablaze.
Odutola had confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday.
Odutola said, “It happened at Oke Ado junction in Ijebu Mushin. A luxury Mercedes-Benz bus was burnt down. The vehicle was coming from Maza Maza before it encountered the hoodlums. No reference to a gun was made. They (the hoodlums) wielded cutlasses.”
The 59-seater bus was said to be operated by Ifesinachi Transport Limited.
One of the passengers, while narrating their experience in a viral video, had said, “Ifesinachi Motors, we were travelling in the night to come back to the East for Easter celebration, and criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along Ore-Benin Expressway.
“They robbed us of everything we had, some they stripped half-naked. They locked us inside the 59-seater luxury bus and set it ablaze. We thank God that we later escaped; nobody died, but everything we had was collected.
“We thank God that we didn’t lose anyone, but we lost everything we were travelling with and some sustained injuries.”
