Roger Waters sparks a row after dressing up as a Nazi officer at a concert in Germany | World news
The Nazis are long gone but despite the great crimes they committed between 1930-1945, the commitment to Hitler’s creation remains in different parts of the world in different ways. During a recent live performance in Germany, former Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters wore a uniform resembling that of a Nazi SS officer. Pictures of Roger from the event have gone viral on social media, drawing a lot of flak from around the world.
During Roger’s presentation, Anne Frank’s name was also projected on a large screen. Essentially, Frank is a Jewish girl who documents her horrific experiences while in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. She wrote a dairy account in troubled times and it was published as a book called “The Diary of a Young Girl.”
Meanwhile, Jewish News has reported that the German police have started an investigation into Roger’s actions during his concert at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on 17 June.
Police director Martin Halweg said: “The State Security Unit at the Berlin Criminal Police Office has started a criminal investigation process regarding the suspicion of incitement of people (140 Paragraph 4 of the German criminal code).
“The context of the clothes they wear is believed to endorse, glorify or justify the violence and Nazi regime in a way that insults the dignity of those who have just arrived, and thus violates public peace. After completing the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Berlin Prosecutor’s Office for legal evaluation,” added the chief inspector of police.
The Independent has reported that Roger’s show began the show with a statement that read: “On a matter of public interest: a court in Frankfurt has decided that I am not an opponent.”
“To be clear, I unequivocally condemn anti-Semitism.”
In particular, Roger is often accused of being anti-Semitic and for his vanity against Israel. He has previously compared the Israeli government’s actions towards the Palestinians to the oppression and injustice perpetrated by the Nazis under Hitler.
Roger is scheduled to perform at another concert in Frankfurt on Sunday. There are reports that protesters may show up outside the venue for Roger’s anti-Semitic stance and the latest controversy.
