The UN’s Middle East envoy condemned the deadly Israeli airstrikes in Gaza
Tor Wennesland, UN Special Coordinator for the Palestinian Middle East Peace Process said: “I am deeply saddened by the developments in Gaza after Israel launched military operations this morning targeting members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ ).
The Israeli airstrikes inside Gaza resulted in the killing 13 Palestiniansincluding three members of the PIJ, a doctor, five women and four children, and more than 20 injured, he said, due to the incident.
“This is not acceptable“he added, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid escalation.
The Prime Minister, who is working with peace process groups to make further progress on realizing a two-state solution, said his Office is “working fully with all parties in an effort to avoid a broad conflict along with very destructive for all“.
According to news reports, several Israeli airstrikes were carried out in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Other crimes must stop
His speech came a day after he criticized a European Union-funded primary school in the West Bank.
Continued hostilities, including school destruction, “create a climate of tension and tension between Palestinians and Israelis and damaging the prospects of achieving a political solution“he said in a statement issued on Monday after the destruction of the Israeli authorities on May 7.
The primary school funded by the European Union in the village of Jubbet adh Dhib, east of Bethlehem, in the C region of the occupied West Bank, involves the education of at least 40 children.
58 schools face illegal demolition
The demolition followed an Israeli court order citing security concerns in response to a petition by a settler organization. Currently, 58 schools, serving 6,500 children, face the threat of destruction because of the lack of housing permits it is almost impossible for Palestinians to obtain them, Mr. Wennesland said.
“The child’s right to education must be respected,” he said, calling on Israeli authorities to put an end to such demolitions and evictionswhich is illegal under international law, and to approve plans for Palestinian communities to legally build in Area C to address their development needs, including for schools.
“Such actions negatively affect the delivery of basic services for Palestinians, threaten stability, and undermine the Palestinian Authority,” he said.
