Two kidnappers Shot Dead , Others Arrested In Gun Battle With Police In Ogun

Two suspected kidnappers were shot dead while three Police Officers were severely injured during a gun battle that broke out between the gang and the police between Abigi and J4 in Ogun State

The gun battle occurred while the Ogun State Police Command were taking the three arrested suspected kidnappers to Abeokuta by the men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly abducting three persons including the son of the chief Imam of Ode-Omi Community, in the Ogun water side Local government of Ogun State.

The three victims identified as Adamson Bamidele, Adam Jelil and Sanni Azeez were rescued on the 16th of August 2019 while police kept trailing their abductor who are still hibernating in the creek.

At a stage, the policemen advanced to their hideout in the creek and engaged them in a gun battle where four policemen were injured in the process of forcing policemen to withdraw but laid ambush around the area

Gateway times furthered gathered that some of the kidnappers who took to their heels during the operation engaged them in another gun battle while they were bringing the arrested suspects to the state headquarters for further investigation.

The State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama disclosed this while parading the arrested suspects on Thursday at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta Ogun State.

According to him, the efforts of Ogun State Police Command in checkmating the activities of hoodlums who have taken kidnapping as business yielded a positive result when four members of a two gang who abducted three persons including a son of the Chief Imam of Ode-Omi Community on Sunday 11th of August 2119 were arrested by men of Ogun State Police.

”While the arrested suspects were being taken to Abeokuta by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, their other colleagues who laid ambush for them between Abigi and J4 attacked the team with view of freeing their arrested members, resulting to cross firing between the gang and the police”

”At the end of the gun duel, two out of the arrested suspects and one of the attackers were fatally injured. One pump action gun belonging to attackers and three expended cartridges were recovered at the scene of the ambush while some of the attackers escaped with bullet injuries”

”Unknown to them that they were being trailed, four members of the gang came out of the creeks probably to relocate to another place and police swooped on them and got them arrested”

The Command therefore appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals to report anybody seen with a gunshot injury to the police in their area.

Recovered from the suspects are two cut- to – size guns, four live cartridges, one cylinder, one boat engine and assorted charms.
