The Ogun State Community Social and Orientation Corps code-named So-Safe Corps on Monday said it had arrested two suspected burglars in the Agoro area of Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State while attempting to steal a generator on Friday.
The So-Safe Commandant, Soji Ganzallo, in a statement through the Director of Information and Public Relations, AC Moruf Yusuf, obtained by PUNCH Metro, alleged that the two suspects were members of a burgling syndicate that specialised in stealing generators in the area.
Ganzallo noted that the arrested suspects ran out of luck on Friday and were arrested following credible intelligence received from some members of the community about the activities of the gang.
He said upon receiving the intelligence, the Ado-Odo/Otta Zonal Commander of the Corps, Tajudeen Odunmbaku, deployed his men to the community and intercepted the two suspects on a motorbike while returning to the community to steal another generator.
He stated, “At about 01:00 am on February 22, there was an emergency call from the said community, needing a prompt response from the Corps, following which the Ado-Odo/Otta Zonal Commander, AC Tajudeen Odunmbaku, deployed his men to the troubled Agoro community.
“Two of the six-man gang ran out of luck after successfully carting away a 7.5kva alternator diesel generator, while in use, and were in the process of revisiting, to do away with another one, this time, a petrol generator, from the same spot.
“On interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they arrived at the community two hours earlier, only to carry out the operation thereafter, carting away the 7.5kva alternator diesel generator.”
Ganzallo said upon further investigation, the stolen generator was recovered at Ilepa in Ifo Local Government Area of the state, adding that, in their confession, the suspects disclosed the identity of the buyer of their stolen goods as one ‘Indomie’, residing in Ijako-Otta.
“The followings were also listed as members of their team stirring the water of peace in Agoro axis; Omo Wise, Mtn, Foldest and Shuaib.
“The suspects and the exhibits have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution,” he concluded.
