In a striking embrace of cultural diversity, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has embraced a new chapter in the state’s history by recognizing Isese Day as a public holiday. This first observance of the cultural move, set for August 21, 2023, not only honours Yoruba culture but also exemplifies Governor Abiodun’s commitment to fostering unity amid a tapestry of traditions

Governor Abiodun’s recognition of religious plurality of the state’s citizens commenced on March 7, 2023, with the issuance of an Executive Order enshrining August 20 as Isese Day in Ogun State. Subsequently, on July 11, the State House of Assembly cast its unanimous support, solidifying this cultural celebration within the legal landscape.

In an eloquent statement relayed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran, Governor Abiodun lauded the harmonious coexistence of various faiths within the Gateway State. This recognition of Isese Day serves as a bridge that unites adherents of diverse beliefs, promoting tolerance and understanding.

A laudable hallmark of Governor Abiodun’s tenure is his respect for indigenous practices and beliefs. His establishment of the Alternate Medicine Board in September 2020 as a supportive scaffold for traditional medical practitioners underscores his impartial resolve to safeguard ancestral wisdom and allow people to practice their religious beliefs as provided for by the Constitution of Nigeria.

As Isese Day approaches, a clarion call resonates: let us commemorate this cultural milestone with grace and reverence. Together, let’s cherish the kaleidoscope of traditions that enrich Ogun State’s identity while safeguarding the tranquillity that defines the region.
