Why I Threw My One-Day Old Baby Into Soak Away Pit -30 Year- Old Woman

A 30 year Old woman, Mrs Risikat Olabintan who was arrested for throwing her one day old baby into a soak-away pit has disclosed the reason he decided to make such decision.
While speaking with the news men at the command’s headquarter, Eleweran, Abeokuta, she explained that the reason she decided to throw her baby into soak- away pit was because she had no means of feeding the baby with the other five children she had already , adding that her husband has absconded to an unknown destination for quite some time now leaving her and the children without looking back
She said, ” i actually gave birth to the baby which is the sixth of my children and when I have no means of feeding them all since my husband has absconded to an unknown destination for quite some time now so I have no choice than to throw her into pit.
Olabintan was arrested last week Sunday for throwing her one day old baby into soak-away pit in Ishaga Surulere area of Owode-Yewa.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said, woman was arrested following a distress call received by members of Ibukun Oluwapo Community Ishaga, Surulere area in Owode-Yewa that some children while playing at the backyard of their compound heard the crying of a baby in the soak-away and raised alarm.
On receiving the information, the DPO Owode-Yewa, SP Olabisi Elebute quickly led team of policemen to the scene where the baby was rescued with the assistance of members of the public.
Investigation later revealed that it was the said Risikat Olabintan who gave birth secretly to the baby and threw him inside the soak-away as early as 5am of that day, hence she was apprehended.
It was gathered that both the baby and the mother are presently in the hospital for medical attention and the baby is responding positively to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal has directed that the case be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation.
