
The succession process for the prestigious stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland formally commenced on Tuesday as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House received the official notification letter mandating them to present candidates for the revered throne.
The presentation ceremony, held in Ijebu-Ode, was witnessed by the Olori Ebi of the Fusengbuwa lineage, Princes and Princesses of the ruling house, and officials of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government led by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr Oke Abiodun Adebanjo.
Speaking on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, Mr. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo expressed appreciation for the presence of the royal family and dignitaries. He described the day as a significant milestone in the transition journey following the passage of the iconic monarch, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, whose reign was marked by peace, honour, and unprecedented development in Ijebuland.
Mr. Adebanjo emphasized that, in line with the traditional rotational structure and legal provisions guiding the succession process, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is hereby granted 14 days to present qualified candidates for the vacant Awujale stool.
He added that the presentation of the notification letter represents the beginning of a transparent and unifying selection process rooted in respect for Ijebu customs and traditions. He also noted that the Ogbeni Odi would proceed with the Awujale staff of office, as required by tradition, signifying the continuation of the transition rites.
Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, assured the gathering that the ruling house is fully prepared for the responsibility ahead and will present worthy and qualified candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman, Professor Adetokunboh Fassay Yusuf, reiterated the house’s commitment to following due process, stressing that only credible, qualified individuals will be put forward in accordance with tradition, law, and the expectations of the Ijebu nation.
With the formal notification delivered, the race toward the emergence of the next Awujale has officially begun, marking a historic moment for the Fusengbuwa dynasty and the entire Ijebuland.
