2027: We Have Not Endorsed Any Gov Aspirant, Says Ogun Councilors’ Forum

The Ogun State Councillors’ Forum, on Friday, dismissed reports that it had endorsed a governorship aspirant for the 2027 general election, affirming that its allegiance lies with Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR. CON, and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

The forum gave this clarification in a statement signed by its chairman, Hon. Fasheyi Akindele
Chairman; secretary, Hon. Rotimi Adeyemi, and the Acting President, Nigeria Councillors Forum, Hon. Muheeb Abiola Kehinde.

Disclaiming a video widely shared online alleging that it had pledged loyalty to a gubernatorial aspirant, the forum said that the claim is entirely false.

Pointing out that it is presently in Abuja for a National Legislative Capacity-Building Conference facilitated and sponsored by Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR CON, it said the misrepresented incident occurred at its hotel premises when an aide to Senator Olamilekan Solomon (Yayi), Chief Kayode Odunaro, made a brief courtesy stop and interacted informally with a few individuals.

It added, however, that no official meeting was held, nor was any political allegiance expressed or shifted, saying that any recording from that moment reflected personal actions and not the collective stance of the Forum.

The forum said: “Our unwavering, 100 per cent loyalty remains with His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun MFR. CON, and the leadership of the party

“We are wholly committed to the APC at the National, State, and Local Government levels.

“We have not endorsed any gubernatorial aspirant. We stand firmly with the party leadership and will faithfully support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate.

“As responsible stakeholders, we paid courtesy visits to all House of Representatives members from Ogun State during our stay in Abuja to further strengthen our bond with the party’s elected officials.”

The forum urged the general public, party faithful, and the national leadership of the APC to disregard the misleading video, adding that it remains guided by the principles of unity, loyalty, and discipline that define APC, and would never engage in actions that undermine the cohesion or stability of the party.

“We express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR CON, and the APC leadership for their unwavering support.

“The Forum remains committed to promoting good governance and accelerating development across our wards and Ogun State at large,” it said.
