
Indian authorities have apprehended a Nigerian woman, Emmanuella Ikhanoba, carrying 2.017g of the banned synthetic psychoactive drug MDMA worth over Rs 2 crore (approximately N360m) at Surat railway station in Gujarat.
According to a report by the Times of India, she was caught on a train by officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Wednesday.
Ikhanoba had boarded the train from Delhi, but DRI officials intercepted her following a tip-off, and she was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the intended recipient and destination of the drug consignment.
Investigators are also probing whether the Nigerian was an illegal resident in India.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian, identified as Ikechukwu, was arrested by police during a special operation that busted a drug syndicate in Mahendragarh.
Ikechukwu, who was described as a key supplier, was nabbed alongside 10 gang members of the drug syndicate.
Police said drugs, cash, fake rupee notes, a scooter and other items were recovered from the suspects.
