Three Killed, 10 Buildings Burnt As Violence Rocks Kwara Community

Kwara State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in a violent attack that left two people dead and about 10 buildings destroyed in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on May 31, 2026.

According to the statement, the incident began after a clash between an unidentified Fulani man and an Islamic scholar, Mohammed Ilyasu, during which both men sustained machete injuries.

The police said Ilyasu was confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital, while the other man later died while receiving treatment.

The command alleged that some youths subsequently stormed the hospital, seized the corpse of the deceased suspect and set it ablaze.

Another man passing through the area was also reportedly attacked and burnt by the mob.

Police further stated that about 10 buildings belonging to members of the Fulani community, including the residence of the Ardo Fulani, Alhaji Hassan, were razed during the violence.

The statement added that security operatives comprising police personnel and military officers were deployed to the area and had restored normalcy.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, condemned the attacks and warned against taking the law into one’s hands.

“No individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands irrespective of the circumstances surrounding any incident,” the commissioner said.

The command said investigations were ongoing and assured residents that those involved in the attacks would be arrested and prosecuted.
