The Chairman of the St. Kizito’s High School Alumni Association (SKHSAA), Mr. Kabiru Abass, has called on old students, parents, government and other stakeholders to intensify their support for the development of the school as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Abass made the call during the St. Kizito’s High School, Iwopin, 50th Anniversary Press Conference, where he reflected on the history, achievements and challenges of the institution and outlined areas requiring greater attention for the benefit of present and future students.
He said the 50th anniversary, being celebrated in 2026, marks five decades of education, service and contribution to the development of young people and the wider community.
According to him, the school began as St. Margaret in the late 1960s before it became St. Kizito’s High School in July 1976.
He noted that over the decades, the institution had admitted students from different communities and states, making it a meeting point for people from diverse backgrounds.
The Chairman said the impact of the school could be seen in the achievements of its former students, many of whom have become professors, politicians, business owners, doctors, lawyers and professionals in various fields. He also noted that among the school’s products is a former Deputy Speaker of the Local Government.
While appreciating members of the alumni association for their contributions, Abass urged old students to do more for the institution, particularly in areas that would directly benefit the current generation.
He proposed the establishment of vocational centres where students could acquire practical skills, as well as a well-equipped computer centre to improve students’ exposure to digital technology.

The Alumni Chairman also expressed concern over the academic challenges confronting some students, particularly those still struggling with reading. He called for greater attention and support from parents, teachers, government and the alumni association to help such students improve.
Abass recalled that students and teachers in the early years of the school had to cope with inadequate teaching staff, limited electricity and virtually no access to modern technology.
Despite those challenges, he said, many of the students persevered and eventually achieved success in different fields.
He therefore described the anniversary as more than a celebration of the school’s past, saying it should also serve as an opportunity to prepare the younger generation for the future.
He encouraged students not to allow their rural or fishing-community background to limit their ambitions, stressing that their environment should not prevent them from pursuing higher education and achieving their dreams.
The Chairman also appealed to parents to make the education and proper upbringing of their children a priority, while urging teachers to remain committed to their responsibilities despite the challenges of working in the community.
Speaking at the event, the Principal appreciated the old students for their continued contributions to the development of the school.
She also commended the government for its support, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, curriculum development and other improvements within the institution.
Another Principal who spoke during the event expressed appreciation to the President of the St. Kizito’s High School Alumni Association for his continued efforts and support towards the school and its students.
He acknowledged the contributions of individuals and groups to the growth of the institution and prayed for continued success for everyone who had contributed to its development.
The event also featured a vote of thanks by the PRO, who appreciated guests, alumni, school management, teachers, parents, students, government representatives and other stakeholders for their presence and contributions to the success of the press conference.
The event ended with a closing prayer, followed by photographs and video documentation.
As St. Kizito’s High School marks its 50th anniversary, the celebration continues to provide an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s journey, honour those who contributed to its growth and renew commitment towards creating greater opportunities for the next generation.
