The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology have commended the initiative of the Rotary District 9110 for renovating 171 year old primary school in Ogun State.
The chairman of the SUBEB, Alhaji Abduljeleel Okelewole and the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education and Technology gave the commendation on Saturday while commissioning the renovated six class rooms at the St. Johns Primary school,Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Okewole who was represented by the Deputy Director, Quality Assurance SUBEB, Mrs. Agbatiogun Jokotade said the renovation and provision of 6 Toilets facilities, Boreholes, generator and over head water tank would go a long way at aiding effective teaching and conducive environment that leads to better achievement in learners.
He said the present adminstration led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun recognised the fact that infrastructural development in the educational sector was a responsibility of all stakeholders, adding that other None Governmental Organisation (NGOs) should emulate such initiative.
Also speaking the Permanently Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Aikulola Olu. Ola, represented by Mr. Kikisulu Olugbenga, said Education was very imperative for National development, hence no success-driven society or government would underestimated its significance, saying that government was always open to partnering with individual or group that would consolidate its effort.
“The initiative taken to give infrastructural face-lift to one of our school St John’s Anglican Primary School is a demonstration of patriotism and we are appreciative of all the members of Rotary District 9110 of Nigeria for deeming it fit to commit their resources towards nation building” he said.
While charged the teachers and management of the school to ensure optimal maintenance of the facilities provided,
”This act of kindness should propel the teachers to improve performance and service delivery”
He urged the Community leaders and parents to educate their wards on social responsibility and learn to safeguard public property as well as desist from every form of unguarded behaviour.
Meanwhile, the Rotary District Governor, Rtn Kola Sodipo said Rotary Club which was established in 1905 in Chicago has become a house-hold name in making lives meaningful to the less privileged in the society, promising to initiates more impactive projects in the school.
