Dotun Adeboye, Abeokuta
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi has directed Chairmen of Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas suspended in the previous week by a resolution, to forward their financial report, including list of performance in the last three years to the Assembly within one week.
Adekunbi gave the directive during a meeting with the Council and LCDA Chairmen and Councillors at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, explaining that the financial report should include financial spending, covering income and expenditures, revenue and details of projects executed, for immediate submission to the 9th Assembly.
The Speaker, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, allayed the fear of the Chairmen on the need to ensure fair hearing on petitions against some of them, assuring that the incoming legislature has been empowered by the newly adopted South West standing order for State Houses of Assembly, to continue the business of the 8th Legislature, upon its inauguration.
According to him, the interactive meeting was meant to give fair hearing to the suspended Chairmen and the Councillors to defend allegations contained in about 113 petitions submitted to the Assembly.
It would be recalled that the State Assembly, barely a week, at a plenary, presided over by Speaker Suraju Adekunbi, passed a resolution suspending all political functionaries in all Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State and consequently, directed them to hand over to the Head of Local Government Administration in their respective councils and LCDAs.
