As the 9th Assembly in Ogun state resumes work on Monday, June 10, 2019 to elect her principal officers to steer the activities of the legislative house, there seems to be uneasy calm in different political camps in the state as two key candidates jostling for the office of the Speaker intensify serious lobby among other new assemblymen.
Gateway Times can authoritatively inform that the major contenders for the speakership position are Hon Olakunle Taiwo Oluomo, the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House who also doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Tender Board and Hon Daisi Elemide also a second time lawmaker in the Assembly.
Olumo would be representing the people of Ifo 1, while Elemide represents Odeda state constituency. Though, the duo won their respective tickets on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, their ambitions are now causing ripples within the party as to where the new Governor would want the pendulum to swing.
While some of the key political confidants of Gov Dapo Abiodun are queuing behind Oluomo at least to reciprocate his unalloyed loyalty to the cause of the Governor, others in same political camp with Abiodun believed Elemide also played a prominent role in the emergence of the new government.
In all of these permutations, a reliable source close to the Governor told Gateway Times this morning, June 9, 2019 that Oluomo is being favoured to emerge as the new Speaker of the Ogun Assembly.
The source added that despite the underground support for Oluomo, however, Elemide has vowed to push his ambition to victory. He is said to banking on his closeness to Chief Olusegun Osoba, a chieftain of APC and one of the major power brokers of the party and the support of the opposition parties which has skeletal appearance at the 9th assembly to make his ambition a reality.
Gateway Times can reliably scoop that Hon Tunji Egbeokun, of the famous G15 Assemblymen in the days of Otunba Gbenga Daniel will play a significant role in who eventually becomes the Speaker in few days’ time. Egbetokun, Gateway Times can also inform you happens to be one of the power brokers of the new government as the new Governor relies on him in taking many political decisions as it also relates to the legislative house.
