Activities for this year’s Arise Women 2022 has kicked off on a brighter note with an exciting first Arise Golf Tournament at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos. The event which took place on Friday 7th October 2022 witnessed some prominent Nigerians who are fans of the game including former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro whose son is playing internationally.
The tournament which was a brainchild of the Convener of Arise and a fan of Golf herself, Dr Siju Iluyomade was put together to sensitize the public on activities of Arise Women and promote the sport, golf erroneously believed to be game for only the wealthy. The event teed off early morning on the day before a total number of 11 winners were presented trophies and gift during the reception later at the golf section of the club
Prominent among those who participated in the tournament was Mr Femi Pedro, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, Funke Majekodunmi, Samuel Kuye, Lola Ajibola, Onaolapo Wale, Adeola Banjoke and host of others. With over 30participant both in the men and women category, a total of 11 winners were selected after the end of the game. Speaking during her Keynote address at the reception organized for the winners, Dr Siju expresses appreciation to Dr Anthony Oboh and Alhaji Wahab Sarumi the Captain and Vice Captain of Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 and all members for alloying them to sponsor the event.
Among winners of the tournament are, Alex Nimyel, Carol Majoroh, Tim Ayonmike, Segun Adekoya.
She used the opportunity to enumerate so many humanitarian gestures Arise Women has been undertaking in the last 14years, as an intervention to improve the life of mostly the less privileged in the society.
Several gift items were also given out to people on the day in a lucky dip winner
