The Indian High Commission in Canada also launched travel packages for travel | World news

Toronto: After almost three years, after being suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, incoming applicants will be allowed for travel-related documents to India from Thursday.

This was announced by the High Commission of India to Ottawa on Tuesday. This application will be available from February 1 in the companies operated by BLS, the company that has contracted for this purpose.

“All applicants seeking visa, OCI, passport and other consular services can use the walk-in mode to submit their applications and supporting documents,” a release from the High Commission said, adding that this could be done done without prior appointment.

The announcement comes even as a large backlog of applications is pending for the issuance of these travel documents. In December, India’s High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma pointed to rising demand for Citizens of India (OCI) cards, as the number of applications grew to 49,000 in November against 26,000 for the same month last year. .

The reason for the growing demand is the increasing population of Indian immigrants in Canada. There are 240,000 students from India in Canadian institutions at the moment, while in 2021, India is the top source country for permanent residents, with 127,933, or more than a quarter of the total, accepted.

Accepting incoming applicants is part of the gradual renewal of services which have been disrupted due to the coronavirus crisis. The e-visa program for Canadian citizens resumed in December, although there was no time to renew the ten-year multi-visitor visa program which was suspended when the Covid-19 pandemic began in the spring of 2020.

“Incoming jobs are shown in addition to appointment and posting positions, which will continue to be available,” the release noted.

The Supreme Council also asked those who have already booked appointments to submit their applications, and will use the travel tool to cancel their appointment slots.
