The Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN has lauded president Muhammadu Buhari over closure of border in the country.
The South/West chairman and National Vice President of the Association, Dr. Bode Adetoyi made this known on Tuesday during a Three Day Workshop with the theme: Nigeria Poultry Industry: Managing the Value Chain for National Development held in Providence Events Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State
The PAN chairman also maintained that the closure of border will have a positive effect on their business, adding that it will enable them to contribute to reducing employment in Nigeria
He said, ”this is because the value chain in the poultry will expand their market.
”I want to thank President Buhari for closing the border because it will enable Nigerians to eat made in Nigeria chickens, they are fresh and nice unlike the smuggled ones that are embalmed which has caused more damages on Nigerians.
”Our people contact various diseases such as cancer and die untimely as a result of eating smuggled chickens. The closure will increase capacity of the broiler processors and distributors. It will trigger value chain thing that employment generation will be tripled.
”With the closure of the border. We have what it takes in the poultry industry to meet the 200 million requirement in our poultry industry to meet the requirement for our meat consumption.
”We have demystified the eating of eggs eating an egg everyday will keep you healthy, the cholesterol in egg can trigger the cholesterol in human being. Eating an egg a day will keep you alive because egg is a complete food.
”The take home from this workshop is that we are trying to showcase the enormous opportunities in the poultry industry from farm management, farm planning, feasibility study, layer production, breeder, feeds production, etc and we have recorded 5,000 attendees today. Nigeria poultry is showcasing the enormous capacity in the poultry industry and we are passing the message to the government both state and federal that poultry farmers have the capacity to supply healthy meats, fishes and healthy eggs”
Meanwhile the Ogun state governor, prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged his readiness to inculcate poultry farming into Anchor Borrowers Programme.
Represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Noimot Slako-Oyedele, Abiodun reiterated that his administration was committed to create more job opportunities for youths in the state through agricultural development.
‘The current Administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun would prioritize farmer’s welfare to enhance large scale of food production in the state as part of the fulfilment of his campaign promises during the election”
