Russian troops are surrendering at an increasing rate amid the war in Ukraine Ukraine, the main intelligence guide of Ukraine observed. In a statement, Ukraine’s defense ministry said there had been a “sharp” increase in the number of Russian soldiers willing to surrender to “save their lives”. Some Russian soldiers were also “captured directly” on the battlefield, the statement added.

Vitaliy Matvienko, spokesman for the “I Want to Live” website, said that registered petitions for release from the Russian army have doubled since last month to 3,000 appeals. The project was carried out by the coordinating agency for the treatment of prisoners of war with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the First Directorate of Intelligence.
“Ukraine’s offensive on the ground has not yet begun, but its efforts are already bearing fruit. The choice of a Russian soldier during the war is simple: either death or arrest,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.
“However, a series of sudden, unexpected, fast-moving events can change everything,” he added, warning that the window of opportunity for resilience is “shrinking.”
This comes as secret documents with details of US and NATO plans to help prepare Ukraine for a spring offensive against Russia were circulated on social media platforms, the New York Times reported. The Pentagon said it was investigating the security breach.
