A large explosion hit a street in the Russian city of Belgorod, which is across the border from Ukraine, late Wednesday but there were no initial reports of injuries, local authorities said.
Belgorod regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, declaring a state of emergency, said on Telegram that there was a hole measuring 20 meters across (65 feet) on one of the main roads in the city. He did not say what caused it.
Video footage from the scene showed piles of concrete on the road, several damaged cars and a house with broken windows. A shot shows what appears to be an upside-down car on top of a store.
