The order was issued by a three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, which heard the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman’s plea against his arrest in court Al-Qadir Trust on Wednesday.

The bench during the hearing expressed anger at the way the 70-year-old Khan was taken from the Islamabad High Court district where he had come from Lahore for a case.

“What is left of the court if 90 people enter your area? How can we take anyone from the court?” The Chief Justice was quoted as saying by Dawn newspaper.

He said: “In the past, they have taken action against lawyers for corruption in court.” If someone surrenders to the court, what does it mean to arrest them?

The Supreme Court said that the National Audit Bureau (NAB) had committed “contempt of court”.

“They should get permission from the court president before arresting them. Court officials are also vulnerable,” he added.

The bench directed NAB to produce Khan by 4:30 pm (local time) when the court will reconvene.
