The Ogun State governor, prince Dapo Abiodun has assured the civil servants that his administration would consider the implementation of the new minimum wage.
The governor disclosed this on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Permanent Secretariat of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria held in Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to him, Ogun State government and our labour associations continue to enjoy a robust
and peaceful relationship which has been a major contributory factor to the continued development of our dear State.
He said ”My administration will not take public servants for granted because they are equal stakeholders in our building our future together agenda. We are committed to the welfare of our workers, in terms of prompt payment of salaries, workers emoluments, human capacity development and other welfare.
”I have taken note of a number of your requests, including the minimum wage implementation. Let me assure you, all these and other issues would be given very serious and positive considerations. All we ask is the continued support, cooperation and dedication of all our public servant.
He commended the public servants for their professionalism, commitment, dedication and diligence.
”We all come from a honoured, historical and proud legacies bequeathed to us by our founding fathers.
”We are committed to the welfare of our workers, in terms of prompt payment of salaries, workers emoluments, human capacity development and other welfare schemes. Our administration has demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of our public servants and we’ll ensure that we look at those that deserve to be promoted. We are also very determined to provide a very conducive environment, and more importantly have a robust engagement with our public servant among others”
Meanwhile, the Ogun State branch chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, comrade Fajobi Olabunmi noted that they hope that the state government will invite the organized labour to the negotiating table soonest particularly on the consequential increases occasioned by signing of the new Minimum wage to law by President Muhammad Buhari on other sundry issues of concern, the leave allowances arrears, contributory pensions scheme among others.
He said that they strongly believe that there can never be a more auspicious time to accede to the yearnings of the state workforce than now.
”Our hope is that our indefatigable governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun would graciously oblige us a life line, by signing of our already advertised C of O that would afford the opportunity of attracting mortgage loan for the continuation of our housing. We also need to passionately plead with his Excellency to please consider approving the development of the essential infrastructures for the community and other adjoining villages particularly the poor access road and non-existent public power supply.
”It is pertinent to also report that in the midst of all these , we have not deviated from the core values expected a trade union. We have been in the front lines of agitation for things that concerns our members and have ensured at all times that their welfare are of great concern and are promptly brought to the attention of the government or any other concerned authorities utilizing the best of approaches in industrial relations”
He therefore appreciated the support of his colleagues for accommodating the occasion in the ongoing NEC of the Union.
