Why did Joe Biden end his speech on gun control with ‘God save the queen, people’? | World news
Joe Biden is known for his awkward moments during public appearances in the recent past. On Friday, it was no different as the US president left the audience confused after he awkwardly ended his speech on gun control at the University of Hartford campus in Connecticut. At the end of the speech, Biden said: “God save the queen, people”.
Networks, journalists and experts are still trying to find out why Biden said that and what he actually meant. On Friday, White House deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton told reporters that Biden was “commenting to someone in the congregation,” but did not elaborate.

In particular, “God Save the Queen” is the name of the English national anthem under Queen Elizabeth II. After his death, his son King Charles III ascended the throne, and the song reverted to “God Save the King.”
On Friday, Biden’s speech was aimed at his call for new laws to ban AR-15-style rifles and high-capacity magazines and to hold gun owners responsible for the safe storage of their weapons.
“If any of you drive into the parking lot here today, get out of your car, leave a key in your car and have a child with you – 13-14 years old – get into your car, you take it on the joy of killing someone – guess what? He’s responsible,” Biden said.
“Why shouldn’t it be an issue if you don’t lock your weapon?,” he added.
Meanwhile, Twitter users commented on Biden’s signature with “God save the queen, man”. Many users used funny memes and made jokes about Biden’s comment.
“Maybe you mean Dairy Queen. Where they have ice cream,” one user joked.
“Did someone hopefully tell him he was in the US??? Pathetic!,” posted another Twitter user.
“Joe Biden ended his speech in Connecticut by saying that God saved the queen’s man, then he quickly left the stage. Maybe he didn’t remember that the queen is dead and America has ceased to be a British colony. This is a man who is trying to fight with Putin and Xi Jinping,” tweeted another user.
“Joe Biden thought he was in England. He ended his speech with God Save the Queen,” a fourth user posted.
“Joe Biden suddenly said, “Okay, God save the queen, man” – then tried to leave the stage, not entirely sure about the right direction…” Another user posted.
