The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has confirmed the death of two persons with one other sustaining injuries in an accident involving a Mazda bus and a Mazda car in the Ayedere area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The accident was reportedly caused by the driver of an unregistered Mazda car driving against traffic and had a head-on collision with the Mazda bus marked SEY 311 ZY.
The spokesman for the state traffic outfit, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta.
The TRACE spokesperson added that the drivers of the two vehicles died while a motor boy sustained injuries
He explained that the injured motorboy had been rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital before the arrival of TRACE, saying the driver of the car had been taken away by his family for burial.
The corps’ spokesman added that the remains of the drivers of the buses were deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue.
“According to eyewitness accounts, the white Mazda bus, loaded with foodstuffs, was in the rightful lane, outbound Abeokuta before the accident occurred,” he said.
“The unregistered Mazda car, driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law, collided with the bus, leaving the drivers of both vehicles dead on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
“The motorboy of the white Mazda bus sustained varying degrees of injuries and has been taken to a private clinic for medical attention.”
The TRACE spokesman warned drivers to desist from committing route violations, adding that there are a lot of dangers associated with route violations.
