Three Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested In Ogun
Three suspected armed robbers have been arrested in Ogun, police authorities in the South-West state said on Tuesday.
The suspects were part of an armed robbery syndicate that invaded the Ode Remo and Ipara areas of Ogun, raping female students and terrorising the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.
Police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola, said the suspects were identified by one of the victims who were attacked at the state-owned institution.
“The Ogun State Police Command has made significant progress in apprehending suspected armed robbers and recovering firearm and ammunition from three armed men that have invaded Ode Remo, and Ipara, raping female students, and continued terrorising the tertiary institution within that area,” she said.
“On the 27th of November 2023, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, implemented a stop and search operation in Ode Remo and Ipara area.
“During the operation, a gang of three suspected armed young men were intercepted on a motorcycle. The suspects attempted to evade arrest by resorting to violent means to escape but were eventually apprehended.”
She identified them as Taiwo Oredoyin, Taiwo Kuti, and Folorunsho Saheed, saying they are residents of Isara town.
Items recovered from the suspects included one locally fabricated pistol with two live cartridges as well as two Samsung phones.
But noting that the arrested suspects are undergoing interrogation as part of the preliminary investigation, she said they will thereafter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for more investigation.
