Five persons have died in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with 12 others injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident in a Tuesday statement.
According to a spokesperson for the FRSC Command in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, the accident happened around the Four Square Church on the expressway.
Okpe said 18 people were involved in the crash which involved two vehicles. The suspected causes of the fatal crash were tyre bust, speed, and fatigue, she said, adding that this led to a loss of control as the driver slept off on the wheel and rammed into a moving truck.
“The fatal crash occurred at about 1307 hrs on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; a total of 18 persons were involved which 12 people were injured and unfortunately five persons have recorded death from the crash with 2 vehicles with registration numbers ZE-1210G Howo truck and a Mazda bus SMK685YG,” she said
“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere while the corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara.”
FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Anthony Uga, advised motorists to shun speed and always go for good tyres.
He urged drivers to map out time to rest and charged passengers to always be alert to correct some abnormalities. The Sector Commander commiserated with the family of the crash victims.
